Hundreds of Houstonians braved the rain Sept. 20 to celebrate the opening of “Moon Shot,” the newest exhibition at the Moody Center for the Arts. Running through Dec. 21, the show celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 space flight with three galleries of works responding to the moon landing, including lithographs by Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol and a virtual reality work by Laurie Anderson. Artist Katy Schimert even stopped by to discuss her work, which included a large, three-dimensional model of a portion of the moon’s surface, created from wire screens purchased at a hardware store.
