Baker Institute experts available to comment on Brexit extension, Texas implications

HOUSTON – (Oct. 29, 2019) – The United Kingdom will not leave the European Union as scheduled on Thursday after the EU approved a so-called “flextension” to the previous Oct. 31 Brexit deadline.

Now, the U.K. has until Jan. 31 to leave the bloc, but it could do so at an earlier date if a Brexit deal is approved by Britain’s Parliament.

Two experts at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy are available to discuss the implications for the markets, Texas and British culture and society: John Diamond, the Edward A. and Hermena Hancock Kelly Fellow in Public Finance at the Baker Institute and director of the institute’s Center for Public Finance, and Kristian Coates Ulrichsen, a fellow for the Middle East at the Baker Institute and a British citizen who holds a doctorate in history from the University of Cambridge.

In 2016, when Britain’s historic vote to leave the EU took place, Diamond and Coates Ulrichsen explored the moment in a series of commentaries.
