Rice University’s 11th college celebrated its 10th anniversary at a gala in the Duncan College Commons Nov. 2. Duncan magisters Caleb and Brandy McDaniel were on hand to greet past and present Duncaroos at the reception alongside current Duncan College president Louis Cole. President David Leebron, University Representative Y. Ping Sun and the namesakes of Duncan College themselves, Anne and Charles Duncan Jr., were among the honored guests in attendance.
A former chairman of Rice’s Board of Governors, entrepreneur and politician Charles Duncan ’47 helped establish the Baker Institute for Public Policy and was later honored for his commitment to the university with the creation of Duncan Hall in 1996. In 2007, he and Anne celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and donated $30 million to Rice to establish its newest residential college — one of the first buildings on campus to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold status.
