Boris Yakobson, the Karl F. Hasselmann Chair of Engineering and a professor of materials science and nanoengineering and of chemistry, is co-author of a perspective in this week’s Science about the creation of hybrid nanodevices with Russian doll-like nested nanotubes of a variety of elements. The paper is by Shigeo Maruyama, a former visiting fellow in the Rice lab of the late Nobel laureate and nanotechnology pioneer Richard Smalley, titled “One-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures.” Yuri Gogotsi of Drexel University is co-author of the perspective.
