An opening reception was held Feb. 18 on the central quad outside Brochstein Pavilion for the newest piece in Rice Public Art‘s Platform series. Kameelah Janan Rasheed’s “perhaps, there is no sequel” featured a spoken-word performance by the New York-based artist herself, accompanied by trumpeter, composer and hip-hop artist Jawwaad and members of the Rice community who engaged with Rasheed’s text-based art through a series of prompts. Rasheed’s new poetic gesture, installed across four large-scale vinyl banners, will be on view through Sept. 1. (Video by Brandon Martin)
