Texas Climate Power Dialogue set for April 7
Expert panelists to discuss state and local climate action as part of nationwide effort

HOUSTON – (April 6, 2020) – A panel of environment experts will discuss the next decade of climate action in Texas April 7 during the Texas Climate Power Dialogue webinar, which was originally planned as an in-person event but has moved online to accommodate social distancing.

Experts say the next 10 years are critical to ward off destabilization of the global climate. The panelists will lead presentations on climate action in Texas, followed by a community discussion.

Who:              Katharine Hayhoe, atmospheric scientist, professor of politcal science and director of the Climate Science Center at Texas Tech University and CEO of ATMOS Research and Consulting.

Jim Krane, the Wallace S. Wilson Fellow for Energy Studies at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy.

Ben Hirsch, director of strategic partnership at West Street Recovery in Houston.

The Texas event is coordinated and hosted by Rice student James Sanders as part of Solve Climate by 2030’s virtual “teach-in.” Fifty-two similar webinars will be hosted across the country simultaneously, coordinated by the Bard Center for Environmental Policy.

Sanders, a sophomore computational and applied mathematics major, volunteered to organize the Texas event because he believes climate change is “especially relevant to Houston, since the severity of extreme weather events such as hurricanes will only continue to increase.”

“My hope with this webinar is that it will get people talking about the issue, and hopefully provide them with inspiration and insight to work to make a difference,” he said.
