Baker Institute webinar examines global supply chain
Two-day event includes expert and executive panels

HOUSTON – (May 17, 2021) – A two-day, virtual event organized by Ed Emmett, fellow in energy and transportation policy at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, will examine the need for a resilient global supply chain.

The first-ever Houston Global Freight Summit, co-hosted by the Baker Institute’s Center for Energy Studies and Port Houston, will address the latest developments and vulnerabilities in the international freight system. The May 18-19 webinar will feature more than a dozen speakers, including key executives of ports, shippers, ocean carriers, railroads, trucking firms and fuel suppliers. Experts in transportation policy and the environment will also present their research, giving special attention to improving infrastructure and moving freight in a lower carbon world.

What: Houston Global Freight Summit.

When: Tuesday, May 18, and Wednesday, May 19, 9 a.m.-noon CDT both days.

Who: Day 1 speakers include Emmett; Roger Guenther, executive director of Port Houston; Sherry Harriman, senior vice president at Academy Sports and Outdoors; Michelle Michot Foss, fellow in energy, minerals and materials at the Baker Institute; Bill Williams, international vice president of the International Longshoremen’s Association; Stephen Flynn, founding director of the Global Resilience Institute at Northeastern University; Charles Thompson, chief information officer of Port Houston; Curtis Spencer, president of IMS Worldwide Inc.; and U.S. Rep. Brian Babin of Texas.

Day 2 includes Ken Medlock, senior director of the Center for Energy Studies; Jeremy Baines, president of Neste US; Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of the Port of Antwerp, Belgium; Scott Krantzcke, managing director at G2 Ocean; James Corbett, environmental director at the World Shipping Council; John Lovenburg, vice president at BNSF Railway; and Narin Phol, president and managing director at Maersk North America.
