Rice Art Gallery is part of the lineup for Museum District Day Sept. 23
The Rice University Art Gallery will be
one of the many engaging stops on Museum District Day, Saturday,
Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event geared toward the whole family
will feature special activities and programs throughout
Houstons museum district. Rices art gallery
will offer art-making activities for the entire family,
and visitors also will be able to view the gallerys
first exhibit of the season by artists Wolfgang Winter and
Berthold Hörbelt.
Free ice cream and Lego-building activities
will be offered at the Rice Art Gallery until 5 p.m., and
members of the Rice community interested in visiting the
other stops on Museum District Day can hop on a bus at the
gallery that will travel throughout the district.
Museums will offer free admission during
the day. Participants in the event include the Childrens
Museum of Houston, the Contemporary Arts Museum, the Holocaust
Museum Houston, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the
Houston Zoo, the Menil Collection, the Museum of Fine Arts,
Houston, and many others.
Some of the special activities will include
a sea lion demonstration at the Houston Zoo at 11:15 a.m.
and 2:45 p.m., a free concert by Joe McDermont at the Childrens
Museum at 2 p.m., sheep-brain dissection demonstrations
throughout the day at the Museum of Health and Medical Science
and more.
And dont worry about eating before
checking out the days activities. In addition to the
ice cream at the Rice Art Gallery, there will be many dining
choices during Museum District Day, including the new Café
Express at the Museum of Fine Arts, McDonalds at the
Houston Museum of Natural Science, treats ranging from hot
dogs to ice cream at the zoo, sandwiches and cold drinks
at the Childrens Museum, coffee and ice cream at the
Contemporary Arts Museum, free tacos from Cabo restaurant,
snow cones at the Menil Collection and healthy snacks at
the Museum of Health and Medical Science.
