How to deal with difficult people

This year’s
brown-bag lunch seminars sponsored by the Staff Advisory
Committee will launch Oct. 11 with “Dealing With Difficult
People.”

All of the seminars
in the series will be held in Anne and Charles Duncan Hall,
room 3092. Seating is limited to 50 people per session,
and participants are welcome to bring their lunch.

The first seminar
will offer information on the common behavior patterns of
difficult people. It will provide specific guidelines for
dealing with such people, and participants will learn strategies
and techniques to maximize success in dealing with difficult
people.

Other brown-bag
lunch topics and dates include:

• “Smoking
Cessation: Choices and Challenges,” Nov. 15.
In this seminar, participants will begin to understand the
reasons why people smoke and the factors that contribute
to successful smoking cessation. Participants will identify
smoking triggers and learn about the methods available to
help in quitting.
• “Concepts for Planning and Prioritizing,” Feb. 20.
Anyone who wants ideas about how to perform more effectively
at work should consider attending this seminar. Concepts
also can be applied to personal and family life. Subjects
that will be covered include time management, the link between
personal values and use of time, prioritizing tools to analyze
time use and a system for categorizing tasks according to
time-sensitivity and importance.
• “Summer Child Care Options,” March 21.
Parents of school-age children are encouraged to attend
this seminar. It will address how to assess your child’s
interests and explore options for summer activities, including
day camps, overnight camps, parks and recreation programs,
programs for school-age children and more. It also will
explain how to gather more information about particular
programs and options.
