Kambhu to Manage Mail and Delivery
Services

Pat Kambhu will assume the position of manager of the Delivery
Services Department on June 1. She will provide leadership for an
organization that will be focused on greatly improved mail and
delivery services for the entire campus.

As part of her new duties, Kambhu will assume responsibilities for
managing the daily operations for the internal mail distribution, the
outgoing mail processing, and the United States Postal Service
substation, as well as the supervision of the purchase, storage and
delivery of Boise Cascade purchases, copy paper and other items.

Kambhu has been a university staff member for almost 12 years. She
came to campus in 1985 as the department administrator for the Office
of Development and moved into the position of division administrator
for University Advancement in 1991. In the course of her work, she
has become very knowledgeable about mailing needs and procedures in
relation to the massive mailing projects handled within that
division.

With implementation of many changes within the United States
Postal Services the past several years, it has become apparent that
the university must stay current with mailing requirements to be
cost-effective and efficient. It is anticipated that new procedures
and training will be planned during the summer months, with managed
implementation prior to the start of the 1998 academic year.

Among the first issues to be addressed will be the daily delivery
and pick-up of departmental mail and the procedures for accounting
for postage charge-backs to individual departments.

“When it became clear that Rice needed much more attention to this
service, I looked around campus for someone who knew Rice, understood
the complexities of mail and postal regulations, and was a good
fiscal manager,” said Neill Binford, associate vice president for
finance and administration. “Pat Kambhu was immediately a top
candidate as one who had invested in learning mail operations for
University Advancement.

“Pat brings to this position the skills and credibility that will
ensure her success.”
