Self-service
checkout available at Fondren

Campus users
of Fondren Library now can check out books with the library’s
new self-service checkout machine. To use the machine, borrowers
need only their Rice ID and a PIN number, which they can
get from the Circulation staff. The Circulation staff also
is available to demonstrate how the machine works. Once
books are checked out, the machine will desensitize the
security element and will print a receipt listing the books
borrowed and their due dates.

Users whose library record is blocked for any reason, e.g.,
fines or overdue materials, will not be able to use the
self-checkout system and should see the Circulation staff
for assistance.

Faculty, staff
can register for garage parking

The Central Campus
Garage is expected to open in July for contract parking
for faculty and staff and for paid visitor parking. Faculty
and staff interested in registering to park in the garage
may contact the Parking Registration and Enforcement Office
at <cormier@rice.edu>
to have a registration form sent through campus mail. Alternatively,
those interested can stop by the Police Department between

7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday to pick up a form.

Garage parking will be given to the first 250 faculty and
staff submitting completed registration forms. The parking
office will begin a waiting list for any additional garage-parking
requests. If fewer than 250 registration forms are submitted,
the garage will be opened to student contract parking in
September.

Rice News
publication schedule

No Rice News
will be published Thursday, May 16. The May 23 issue will
mark the start of the Rice News’ summer schedule, during
which time the paper will be published the last Thursday
of the month. The deadline during the summer remains eight
days prior to the publication date. For more information
