Rice event to focus on gender and faith at work

HOUSTON – (Oct. 27, 2017) – A Nov. 1 panel hosted by Rice University’s Religion and Public Life Program will focus on the intersection of gender and religion in the workplace. “Gender and Faith at Work” will be held at 7 p.m. in Sewall Hall, Room 309, followed by a reception. The event is free and open to the public.

Katelyn Beaty and Andrea Ramirez will serve as panelists for the event. Beaty serves as an editor-at-large with Christianity Today, and in 2016 she published “A Woman’s Place: A Christian Vision for Your Calling in the Office, the Home and the World.” Ramirez is the executive director of the Faith and Education Coalition for the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference.

Beaty and Ramirez will explore topics such as the role faith plays in enabling or constraining professional pursuits, the challenges organizations face in making their workplaces more gender-diverse and how to address these challenges, and the role faith leaders play in fostering an integrated understanding of the relationship between faith and work.

“This is a unique opportunity to bring men and women from a variety of different faith traditions together to have a robust conversation about how gender and faith interact in the modern workplace,” said Elaine Howard Ecklund, founding director of the Religion and Public Life Program and the Herbert S. Autrey Professor of Sociology.
