Free CPR training this Saturday at Rice University
HOUSTON — (Feb. 23, 2018) — Rice Emergency Medical Services and Baylor College of Medicine will be teaching how to perform hands-only CPR this Saturday as part of the Texas Two-Step initiative to educate communities around the state about the importance of manual chest compressions for cardiopulmonary resuscitation while waiting for medical professionals to arrive.
The free training takes only about 10 minutes and will be offered between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Feb. 24 in the Central Quad near Brochstein Pavilion on the Rice University campus, 6100 Main St. The two-step process entails calling 911 and then beginning hands-only CPR by pushing hard and fast on the center of the recipient’s chest.
The Rice University location is just one of many training sites for this weekend. Over the past three years, the Texas Two-Step initiative has trained more than 10,000 people to use proper CPR techniques. For additional locations, visit www.tx2stepcpr.com.
Paid parking is available in garages and lots on the Rice campus. Locations can be found on the maps at http://maps.rice.edu/.
For more information, contact Rice EMS members Gabriela Barrios at 713-412-6279 or Austin Cao at 414-308-9742.
