Recycle Your Old Shoes

Have your shoes reached the finish line? If so, the Rice Student Recycling Council (SRC) invites you to participate in the shoe recycling program.

The shoes are either donated to a charity or picked up by Nike as part of their Reuse-A-Shoe program. Nike recycles shoes into Nike Grind, a unique ground-up material that is used to resurface athletic fields, courts, tracks and playgrounds.

The SRC has placed bins labeled “Reuse-A-Shoe” in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms at the Rice Recreation Center and in the residential colleges’ laundry rooms. Although Nike collects only used athletic shoes, the SRC will also accept used non-athletic shoes, because Luke’s Locker will deliver them to a local charity.
