Grammy-nominated ensemble to give Oct. 28 performance
Speculum Musicae, a Grammy-nominated ensemble comprised of 12 New York-based musicians, will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, in Duncan Recital Hall, Alice Pratt Brown Hall.
The program will include Jacob Druckman’s “Glint for Clarinet, Violin and Piano”; Mario Davidovsky’s “Quartetto for Flute, Violin, Viola and Cello”; George Perle’s “Critical Moments II for Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Cello, Piano and Percussion”; and Arnold Schoenber’s “Trio for Violin, Viola and Cello.”
Formed in 1971, Speculum Musicae is recognized for its presentations of modern works and is considered one of the nation’s foremost contemporary chamber ensembles.
In addition to annual concert series in New York City, Speculum Musicae has performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Library of Congress and New York Philharmonic’s New Horizons series.
The group’s performances abroad include the Bath Festival in England, Warsaw Autumn Festival in Poland, La Biennale di Venezia and Biennale International Festival of Contemporary Music in Italy.
Speculum Musicae has made recordings with such companies as Nonesuch, New World, Columbia and Bridge Records.
Speculum Musicae’s goal is to preserve and present the classic musical works of today, participate in the development and expansion by collaborating with living composers and to educate the musicians and audiences of the future.
The Shepherd School of Music’s faculty contemporary music ensemble, SYZYGY, presents a four-concert series annually. SYZYGY is dedicated to championing recent music and has presented over 50 world, U.S. and regional premieres during its 23-year history.
