Rice alumnus McMurtry wins Oscar

And the winner is…
Rice University alumnus Larry McMurtry, right, won the Oscar for adapted screenplay at the 78th Academy Awards March 5. McMurtry, who received a master’s in English from Rice in 1960, co-wrote the screenplay for “Brokeback Mountain” with Diana Ossana, who has a connection to Rice also. She is the mother of a Rice alumna, Sara Ossana ’01. The screenplay was based on a short story by Annie Proulx that originally appeared in The New Yorker magazine.
