Rice University alumnus Larry McMurtry, right, won the Oscar for adapted screenplay at the 78th Academy Awards March 5. McMurtry, who received a master’s in English from Rice in 1960, co-wrote the screenplay for “Brokeback Mountain” with Diana Ossana, who has a connection to Rice also. She is the mother of a Rice alumna, Sara Ossana ’01. The screenplay was based on a short story by Annie Proulx that originally appeared in The New Yorker magazine. |
