Democratic candidates’ health care plans to be examined at Rice’s Baker Institute

HOUSTON – (May 30, 2019) – All of the more than 20 candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for president in 2020 support providing health care coverage to more Americans, but they differ on their approaches.

Health economist Vivian Ho, the director of the Center for Health and Biosciences at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, will speak June 7 on how the government’s role in health care could be expanded under a Democratic president and discuss the potential costs for consumers, businesses and taxpayers.

The cost of attendance is $55 for the public, and registration is at www.bakerinstitute.org/events/2010.

Who: Vivian Ho, the James A. Baker III Institute Chair in Health Economics and director of the institute’s Center for Health and Biosciences. Ho is also a professor of economics at Rice and a professor of medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.

What: A presentation titled “Looking for 20/20 Vision on Health Care Among 2020 Democrats.”

When: Friday, June 7, noon-1:30 p.m. Lunch will be served.
