Workshop offers the keys to commercializing technology

To give participants the keys to commercializing technology and successfully launching a new company, the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship will offer a workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., July 25-26.
The two-day workshop, “How to Launch a Successful Start-up Technology Company: The Basics of Starting, Growing, and Funding a News Business,” will be held at Rice University’s McNair Hall.
The workshop will be taught through a series of lectures and presentations from venture capitalists, investors, entrepreneurs, and other leaders in the technology entrepreneurship community.
Topics will include protecting and licensing intellectual property; structuring and funding a new venture; building a successful management team; understanding investment capital; negotiating and financial modeling; developing and communicating a business plan; and addressing the roadblocks to success.
Scientists, engineers, researchers, faculty, health-care professionals and entrepreneurs interested in starting a technology-based business are encouraged to register for the workshop. Graduate students, postdocs and undergraduates in science, engineering and life sciences are also invited to attend.
Registration before July 6 is $165. After July 6, the cost is $195. Rice Alliance members and full-time faculty, staff and students at Rice and other academic institutions can register for $95.
