Randi Martin, the Elma Schneider Professor of Psychological Sciences, has been elected chair-elect of the Linguistics and Language Science Section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for 2020; she will serve as chair in 2021 and retiring chair in 2022. This section, one of 24 of the AAAS, is open to researchers and community members with an interest in human language and how it works. The major duties of the chair are to foster the organization of scientific symposia on language for the annual AAAS meetings, support the nomination of section members as fellows of AAAS and oversee outreach to junior faculty and students to engage them with issues relevant to the section.
