Family friendly flicks show Fridays this fall
FROM RICE NEWS STAFF REPORTS
To honor NASA’s 50th anniversary, Rice University will show space-themed flicks this September for Starlight Movie Nights, a free, public film series showcasing family-friendly movies on the Rice Stadium scoreboard. The series will kick off at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 with “Muppets from Space,” a story about the Muppet gang reuniting Gonzo with his alien family.
Other movies slotted for September are “In the Shadow of the Moon,” “Forbidden Planet” and “Apollo 13.” Starlight Movie Nights will also host space-related games and activities Sept. 12 to mark the anniversary of the 1962 speech President John F. Kennedy gave at Rice Stadium challenging the nation to send an American to the moon by the end of the decade. Rice alumnus and NASA astronaut Danny Olivas ’96 will be there to note the special occasion.
