Rice to participate in conservation initiative
Rice University will participate in “Lights Out Houston,” a sustainability initiative that aims to reduce and eliminate the nonessential use of electricity by office buildings in Houston and the 10 surrounding counties.

At 10 tonight Rice will turn off nonessential lights in administrative buildings as well as the lights shining on Lovett Hall. Security and street lighting will not be affected.
The event will run through the weekend and serve as a finish to Earth Week celebrations.
“Lights Out Houston” is part of a long-term strategy for Houston to become a vanguard of energy conservation. The program is sponsored by the Greater Houston Partnership in conjunction with the City of Houston, Central Houston Inc. and CenterPoint Energy.
