Shell Center seeks faculty proposals

The Shell Center for Sustainability is seeking faculty proposals for interdisciplinary research in the areas of energy, air quality, water quality, biodiversity-forestry, climate change and urban sustainability.
 
The Shell Center will allocate up to $200,000 in fiscal year 2008-09 to support up to five grants.
 
Priority will be given to projects that involve partnerships and collaboration on a multidisciplinary basis, involving at least two separate departments, to address one or more of the following priorities:

  • Expanding or altering knowledge related to threats to sustainability arising in one or more of the six research areas listed above
  • Addressing how public policies might influence private sector decisions to make them more compatible with sustainable development
  • Demonstrating how new scientific understanding or new technology can reduce threats to sustainability arising in one or more of the six research areas listed above
  • Demonstrating how the Shell Center funding will help leverage additional research, resources and opportunities
  • Providing appropriate opportunities for involving undergraduate students in the research project
