Rice hosts prison reform film festival

Ray Hill’s “The Prison Show,” which airs weekly on KPFT-FM, has collaborated with Rice Cinema to bring the first Prison Reform Film Festival to Rice Aug. 15, 16 and 17.

The festival, aimed at encouraging greater civic engagement in the many issues surrounding the country’s rapidly growing prison system, is intended to generate discussions between the Rice and Houston communities.

Each screening will be followed by a panel discussion focusing on issues raised by the films.

The two-way conversation envisioned by Hill, the festival’s founder, reflects Rice Cinema’s goal of reshaping the way people think about the role of cinema in the community.

The festival will also provide an opportunity to strengthen the collaborative relationship between Rice and Houston — a goal of the Vision for the Second Century.
