Lecture series explores the marriage of the two disciplines

Beginning this September, the Rice Design Alliance (RDA) will present a four-part lecture series to discuss the evolving relationship between architects who design cutting-edge buildings and the engineers who make them possible.

This lecture series will examine the increasing creative importance of engineering and computation within advanced architectural design. It will look at how engineers have moved beyond their role of consultants to being true collaborators and often driving forces of the development of design. The series will raise questions about the status of engineering in the United States and the shifting landscape of the professions and disciplines that make the built environment.

TICKETS: RDA, MFAH members, $20

The lecture series will be held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. Upon availability, single tickets can be purchased at the door by members of RDA and MFAH, senior citizens 65 and older and students with ID for $7. Others can purchase single tickets for $10.
The lecture series will kick off Sept. 10 with Gregg Pasquarelli, partner and co-founder of SHoP in New York. Other speakers are Michelle Addington, associate professor at Yale School of Architecture (Sept. 17); Aran Chadwick and Neil Thomas, directors of Atelier One in London (Sept. 24); and Hanif Kara, co-founder of Adams Kara Taylor in London (Oct. 1).
The Rice Design Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of architecture, urban design and the built environment in the Houston region through educational programs, the publication of “Cite: The Architecture + Design Review of Houston” and the promotion of physical improvements in the city.
