Prominent pastor and physician will discuss community leadership
The Rev. Caldwell and Dr. Jones will lecture at Rice in April

The senior pastor of the largest United Methodist Church in the nation and the first black graduate of the University of Arkansas School of Medicine will discuss community leadership as part of Rice University’s Houston Enriches Rice Education (HERE) Speaker Series.

The Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell, senior pastor of Windsor Village United Methodist Church and author of “Entreprenurial Faith and the Gospel of Good Success,” will present “Preparing for a Lifetime of Leadership” from 4 to 5:30 p.m. April 22 in Sewall Hall, Room 301.
Edith Irby Jones, chief of medical staff at Riverside General Hospital and the first female president of the National Medical Association, will speak from 6:30 to 8 p.m. April 23 in Herring Hall, Room 100. In addition to being the first black graduate at the University of Arkansas School of Medicine, Jones was the first black woman resident at Houston’s Baylor College of Medicine.
HERE was designed to advance Rice University’s engagement with Houston. One of the project’s goals is to bring to Rice significant community leaders who, through their life experience, professional commitments and community service, have a wealth of information to share with students.
