Since 1985, Larsen has been at the heart of the Continuing Studies’ French language program, which has introduced the French language and culture to more than a thousand members of the Houston community.
More than 100 people attended, including many of Larsen’s former students.
William Camfield, the Joseph and Joanna Nazro Mullen Professor Emeritus of Art History, presented “French Connections and Some Things My Teacher Never Taught Me,” a lecture that explored the relationship between image and word in selected works of surrealist art.
Mary McIntire, dean of the Glasscock School, and Kathleen Sayers, director of the language programs and associate dean of the school, awarded Larsen with a Glasscock School Teaching Prize and announced the establishment of the Marie-Joséphine Larsen Fund.
