The MBA program at the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management is among the world’s best, according to The Economist’s 2008 Full Time MBA rankings, published last week. Topping the rankings in Texas and the Southwest, the Rice MBA ranked 25th in the U.S. and 44th globally.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), which conducts the survey, focuses on student issues that have emerged over the past decade. According to EIU, the four most important outcomes to students pursuing an MBA are the ability to pursue new career opportunities, expand personal development and educational experiences, increase salary and network. These form the basis for the ranking.

”The Economist ranking highlights the Rice MBA program’s ability to deliver excellent career results for our students,” said Bill Glick, dean of the Jones School. ”The Jones School develops principled, innovative thought leaders who excel in their careers. Rather than teaching just short-term technical skills, we help students develop leadership skills that win promotions and long term career success.”

Alumnus Taylor Faulkner ’08 secured a position at ExxonMobil as a financial analyst after graduation. He said, ”Rice offers an incredible atmosphere with some of the best professors I have ever met. Now, I have a starting salary of more than three times what I made without my MBA and a whole new set of career prospects.”

Glick added, ”Graduates gave very high marks to our career services with a high percentage in jobs found through career services and in a variety of industry sectors. They also gave high ratings to our faculty and experienced an intimate program with high student diversity. The overall ranking was also helped by the high increases in salary and networking opportunities. Our dramatic improvement in The Economist ranking is a reflection of years of hard work by the Jones School community.”
