Professors Naomi Halas, left, and Jennifer West had a ball at the Art Car Parade May 9, riding Rice’s entry. The car was covered in gold balls to represent their invention, AuroShells, the nanoparticles currently being tested as a way to destroy cancer without damaging healthy tissue. Halas is the Stanley C. Moore Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering and professor of chemistry and biomedical engineering, and West is the Isabel C. Cameron Professor of Bioengineering, chair of the bioengineering department and a professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering.
