Open Education Cup honors two Connexions writers
Two writers for Connexions were among winners in the 2008-09 Open Education Cup, a competition for those who create modules on high-performance computing for the Rice-sponsored repository for open-access educational materials.
Ken Busbee, a computer science professor at Houston Community College, won the “Parallel Algorithms and Applications” category for his module, “Understanding High Performance Computing.” Tim Stitt of the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre won the “Parallel Programming Models and Languages” category for his “Introduction to the Partitioned Global Address Space (PGAS) Programming Model.” Each was awarded $500.
The competition was sponsored by Connexions, Rice’s Ken Kennedy Institute for Information Technology, BP, WesternGeco, Nvidia, Total, Sun Microsystems and Chevron. As a result of the contest, Connexions has gained access to a classic, out-of-print book, “High Performance Computing,” first published in 1998 and now going online here.
