The Rice Readers gathered last month to celebrate five years of enjoying books and discussing them over lunch. The group has read 53 books since its inception in May 2005. Elizabeth Long, chair and professor of sociology and author of “Book Clubs: Women and the Uses of Reading in Everyday Life,” was the guest speaker and shared what she learned and observed in her studies of book clubs.
