Rethink. Recycle. Reward.

Karen Hyde, assistant to the vice provost and university librarian, discovered that the new machine in Rice Memorial Center is more than just a recycling bin. The Greenopolis Recycling Kiosk, which was installed over Labor Day weekend, will soon provide two levels of rewards for those who use it to recycle their aluminum cans and plastic bottles. It can also give detailed reports about what was recycled, from the number of containers to the weights and brands of the containers. The kiosk, which can hold 9,000 cans and 1,700 plastic bottles — was lent to Rice for free by Waste Management as part of a one-year pilot project. For more information, visit www.greenopolis.com. |
