Learn about ‘Playing with Atomic Layers’ at Rice Science Café March 22

Rice materials scientist Pulickel Ajayan will be the featured speaker at the Rice Science Café, a meeting where anyone can come explore and debate the latest ideas in science and technology.

“Playing with Atomic Layers — Graphene and Beyond” will be the topic at the meeting set for 6:30 p.m. March 22 at Black Labrador Pub, Churchill Room, 4100 Montrose Blvd.

Ajayan, the Benjamin and Mary Greenwood Anderson Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and of chemistry, will look at the ability of scientists and engineers to grow, isolate, pick up, manipulate and test individual atomic layers of materials. Graphene, the pure carbon analog of such ultimate atomic layer materials, is a quintessential example of this effort. He will also discuss various aspects of these materials, possible technologies based on them and the future of nanotechnology innovation

The event is free and open to the public.
