Jeff Fleming, the Houston Endowment Professor of Finance and senior associate dean of academic affairs at the Jones Graduate School of Business, won the Academy of Management Organizational Behavior Division’s Most Innovative Student Paper Award for his paper, “An Invisible Hand in Employee Service Creativity: Customer Empowering Behaviors.”
Four Shepherd School of Music students won prizes in the Young Texas Artists Music Competition held March 10 in Conroe. Sophomore Coleman Itzkoff took the grand prize for his cello performance; flutist Gina Choi, a graduate student, won gold in the wind, brass and percussion division; and graduate students Lachezar Kostov and Hui-Shan Chin both won silver in the cello and piano divisions, respectively.
Baker College senior Jordan Jaffe will appear in Black Lab Theatre’s production “Our House,” a dark comedy in which reality collides with reality TV, March 16-31. Performances are on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and there’s a 3 p.m. matinee March 25. The play is at Frenetic Theatre, 5102 Navigation. Kirsten Ostherr, associate professor of English, has been awarded a two-year Andrew W. Mellon Foundation New Directions Fellowship to pursue a master’s in public health. This additional expertise should help Ostherr become a leader in the emerging field of humanist medical media.
