Rice U. expert available to discuss Isaac threat to offshore platforms
HOUSTON – (Aug. 26, 2012) –Satish Nagarajaiah, professor of civil and environmental engineering at Rice University, is available for news media interviews about the threat Tropical Storm Isaac poses to offshore drilling platforms. Today Chevron, Shell, BP and Anadarko began evacuations and started shutting down their operations in the Gulf of Mexico.
Nagarajaiah was sought after and used extensively by local and national media outlets during Hurricane Ike and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Currently, Isaac is expected to turn into a hurricane with the possibility of reaching category 1 or 2 before making landfall. Multiple models show the storm eventually making landfall in Louisiana or Mississippi, but there are models that show the storm continuing west toward the Texas-Louisiana border.
Rice University has a VideoLink ReadyCam TV interview studio. ReadyCam is capable of transmitting broadcast-quality standard-definition and high-definition video directly to all news media organizations around the world 24/7. For more information or to schedule an interview with Nagarajaiah, contact David Ruth, director of national media relations at Rice, at david@rice.edu or cell: 612-702-9473.
