Houston Business Journal names Rice one of the city’s best places to work

Rice has won this honor seven years in a row

For the seventh year in a row, Rice University has been named one of Houston’s best places to work by the Houston Business Journal (HBJ).

In the category for businesses with more than 500 employees, Rice ranked No. 8, based on employees’ responses to a 39-question online survey.

Employees evaluated their companies in areas such as goals and leadership, communication and support, advancement opportunity and skill development, recognition and compensation, flexibility, and embracing innovation and ideas.

The award was presented last month at a luncheon at Royal Sonesta Hotel in Houston.

Mary Cronin, associate vice president for Human Resources, applauded Rice faculty and staff for sharing their opinion on the university as a workplace.

“What a great way to celebrate our centennial year, by being named a Best Place to Work in Houston again this year,” Cronin said. “Thank you all for taking the time to complete the survey and giving us the feedback necessary to continue to improve upon our strengths and work on our areas of need.

“It’s our faculty and staff that make Rice such a fantastic place to work – congratulations to all!”
