Large turnout for Mediterranean Film Festival

Rice President David Leebron spoke at the opening reception for the Mediterranean Film Festival held Nov. 16-19 at the Rice Media Center. Audiences averaged 200 people a night for the four-day festival, which screened six contemporary movies from Egypt, Israel, Italy, France, Greece and Turkey. Those countries were represented at the opening reception by (below, from left) Ehab Amr, deputy consul general of Egypt; Charlotte Esnou, deputy cultural attaché for the consulate general of France; Diana Krueger, coordinator of cultural and scientific services for the consulate general of France; Georgios Papanikolaou, consul general of Greece; Marina Mocci, cultural officer for the consulate general of Italy; Guy Cohen, director of cultural affairs for the consulate general of Israel; Gulsevim Seremet, vice consul for the consulate general of Turkey; and Fabrizio Nava, consul general of Italy.

The festival was co-sponsored by Rice University’s Department of Visual and Dramatic Arts, Rice’s   Multicultural Community Relations in the Office of Public Affairs and the consulates general of Egypt,  France, Greece, Israel, Italy and Turkey.
