Rice will host a special Veterans Day ceremony to recognize the more than 100 veterans among its faculty, staff and students Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in Rice Memorial Center’s Ray Courtyard.
This year’s ceremony will be emceed by Dewana Arceneaux, payroll specialist, and will feature remarks by Kazimir Karwowski, executive director of the Rice Center for Engineering Leadership, and Michael Freedman, MBA student in the Jones Graduate School of Business. Frederick Ballentine Jr., a graduate student in the Shepherd School of Music, will sing the national anthem.
The 2013 honoree will be Roger Rodriguez Jr., a carpenter in Facilities Engineering and Planning. Rodriguez served in the Air Force as a mechanic and spearheaded the planning of the first Veterans Day ceremony 11 years ago.
The ceremony will also recognize the undergraduate and graduate students and alumni of Rice who are committed to serving students and the Houston community through charitable veteran and military service organizations.
Employees and students who are veterans are invited to wear their uniforms. All members of the Rice community are welcome to attend.
If it’s raining, the ceremony will be moved to the Rice Chapel.
