Mexico’s energy reform topic at Rice’s Baker Institute Oct. 31

HOUSTON – (Oct. 24, 2013) – Leading experts on the Mexican energy industry will gather at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy Oct. 31 to discuss the future of energy reforms and challenges and opportunities for shale gas development in Mexico and deep water oil prospects in the Gulf of Mexico. The conference is free and open to the public and is hosted by the Baker Institute’s Mexico Center, Center for Energy Studies and the Americas Colloquium at the law firm Haynes and Boone.

Who: Legal, business and policy experts on the Mexican energy industry.

Keynote speaker will be Arturo Henriquez, president and CEO of PEMEX Procurement International Inc.

What: “Mexico’s Energy Reform: Powering the Future” conference.

When: Thursday, Oct. 31, 7:30 a.m.-12:35 p.m.

Where: Rice University, Baker Hall, Doré Commons, 6100 Main St.

The proposed Mexican energy reforms and the enormous investment in infrastructure to implement them will require a new legal framework and a clear understanding of the new markets, event organizers said. The reforms will have considerable implications for the development of the Mexican and broader North American economies. Necessary constitutional and regulatory changes are expected to pass in Mexico’s legislature, indicating there is no better time for energy and infrastructure enterprises to prepare for the expanded investment, service sector and financing opportunities that will build upon and sustain North American energy independence and economic competitiveness for decades to come, they said.
