The Rice Black Student Association (BSA) commemorated Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a candlelight vigil in Rice Memorial Center’s Ray Courtyard and a program at Rice Memorial Chapel on the eve of the Jan. 20 national holiday. Speakers included John Hutchinson, dean of undergraduates; Ruth Lopez Turley, associate professor of sociology, director of the Houston Education Research Consortium and associate director of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research; David Bonner, second vice president of the Houston Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League; and Courtney Morris, postdoctoral fellow in the Center for the Study of Women, Gender and Sexuality.
