Former Israeli intelligence officer to speak at Baker Institute on ‘New Realities in the Broader Middle East’

Danny Rothschild, the director of the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya’s Institute for Policy and Strategy, will speak Sept. 19 on “New Realities in the Broader Middle East” at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy.

Rothschild, who served in the Israeli military for three decades, spent much of his career in the Intelligence Corps. He served in southern Lebanon and, during the first Gulf War, was responsible for political and military strategy and analysis. In 1991, Rothschild was appointed coordinator of government activities in the territories. He played a key role in the negotiation processes that led to the peace agreements with Jordan and with the Palestinians. Rothschild also was part of Israel’s delegation to peace talks with the Jordanians and with the Palestinians in Madrid and in Washington, D.C. He headed Israel’s delegation to the bilateral negotiations with the Palestinians in Cairo, and he served as a senior member of Israel’s delegation to the Paris economic negotiations with the Palestinians.

Upon resigning his commission in 1995, Rothschild co-founded a global security consultancy, NETACS Ltd. He has also served as president of the Council for Peace and Security and on the boards of the Central Bank of Israel and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
