Former Houston Mayor White to discuss new book at Rice’s Baker Institute April 3

HOUSTON – (March 27, 2014) – Former Houston Mayor Bill White will discuss his new book, “America’s Fiscal Constitution: Its Triumph and Collapse,” at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy April 3.

Who: Bill White, former mayor of Houston.

Edward Djerejian, founding director of the Baker Institute, will present introductory remarks.

What: “America’s Fiscal Constitution, Featuring Former Mayor Bill White.”

When: Thursday, April 3, 6-8 p.m. A reception and book signing will follow White’s presentation.

Where: Rice University, Baker Hall, Doré Commons, 6100 Main St.

In “America’s Fiscal Constitution,” White dispels common myths about the budget and extracts practical lessons from the nation’s five previous spikes in debt. Drawing on original scholarship and his experience in finance and public service, he offers an objective guide for people trying to make sense of the current debt crisis and its impact on their lives and futures, event organizers said.

White, a former U.S. deputy secretary of energy, energy executive and three-term Houston mayor, is currently chairman of Lazard Houston.
