Is health care becoming more affordable? Baker Institute event to explore question July 23   

HOUSTON – (July 10, 2014) – Leading health economist Vivian Ho will discuss who has, and has not, benefited from the Affordable Care Act (ACA), based on the latest research from around the country at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy during a forum July 23. The admission fee for the general public is $50.

Who:               Vivian Ho, the chair in health economics at the Baker Institute, a professor of economics at Rice and a professor of medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.

What:             “The Affordable Care Act: Is Health Care Becoming More Affordable?” event.

When:             Wednesday, July 23, noon-1:30 p.m.

Where:           Rice University, James A. Baker III Hall, Doré Commons, 6100 Main St.

New health insurance marketplaces are now open in all 50 states, and many states have accepted federal support to expand their Medicaid programs. Has health care become more affordable? And if so, for whom? At this event, Ho, who leads the Baker Health Policy Forum, will highlight changes in coverage in the private and public sectors as well as the steps that employers are taking to stem rising health care costs. Ho will also examine changes in physician and hospital organizations resulting from the ACA.
