Camp reunion!

Campers and counselors from the first Camp Kesem Rice, held Aug. 3-8 at the Uskichitto Retreat Center in Le Blanc, La., reunited Nov. 15 on the Rice University campus. The event included 20 counselors and volunteers as well as 13 campers and their families. The day’s activities included a lunch, camp songs, games, arts and crafts, a photo booth and a parents’ meeting.

The event concluded Camp Kesem Week, which is hosted each semester to raise money and awareness for the organization. Founded in 2013, Camp Kesem Rice is one of 62 student chapters in the national organization, the country’s only nonprofit organization dedicated to building a nationwide community that is driven by passionate college student leaders and supports children who have a parent with cancer through and beyond the difficult experience. The organization raised more than $500 throughout the week with a series of fundraisers and outreach events engaging the Rice community.
