The Royal Society of Chemistry journal Dalton Transactions lists a recent paper on environmental benefits offered by buckyballs from the lab of Rice chemist Andrew Barron as the highest-scoring for media attention in the journal’s history. The paper, “Understanding the relative binding ability of hydroxyfullerene to divalent and trivalent metals,” is ranked No. 1 of 6,514 published by the journal. Rice undergraduate Jessica Heimann is lead author of the paper, and co-authors are Rice graduate student Lauren Morrow and alumnus Robin Anderson. Barron is the Charles W. Duncan Jr.-Welch Professor of Chemistry and a professor of materials science and nanoengineering.
Douglas Brinkley, professor of history and fellow in history at Rice’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, was honored at the 34th annual Salute to the Parks Awards Dinner March 25 in Washington, D.C. He was presented the Robin W. Winks Award for Enhancing Public Understanding of National Parks. This award is given annually to an individual who has effectively communicated the values of the National Park System to the American public.
The Office of Public Affairs earned a Bronze Addy award from the 10th District of the American Advertising Federation for the summer 2014 issue of Rice Magazine, the quarterly magazine produced by the Office of Public Affairs.
