GE has designated Rice University as one of its executive schools – an honor given because a large number of Rice graduates meet the needs of GE businesses and are likely to be recruited as full-time employees or interns. Rice’s academic excellence, diversity and previous research collaborations with GE were also factors, along with the university’s proximity to GE, which has a large presence in the Houston area. GE employees work in 30 locations across seven businesses in the Greater Houston area: oil and gas, power and water, energy management, health care, transportation, aviation and capital. A plaque was presented to Rice during a May 28 reception at Cohen House that was attended by a number of Rice alumni who currently work for GE.
