ETHICS IS TOPIC OF RICE
UNIVERSITY TALK

A leading historian of philosophy
discusses the current state of moral philosophy in a lecture at Rice University
on Thursday, April 20.

“Trapped Between Kant and Dewey: The Current State of Moral
Philosophy” is the title of a lecture by Richard Rorty, professor of comparative
literature at Stanford University, to be held at 4 p.m. in McMurtry Auditorium,
Anne and Charles Duncan Hall.

Richard Rorty is one of the world’s most prominent and
accomplished philosophers and the leading advocate of pragmatism, an American
tradition of philosophy.

Rorty’s publications, numbering in the hundreds, span the major
areas of philosophy and its history. His books, which have been translated into
more than a dozen languages, include Philosophy and the Mirror of Nature
and, most recently, Achieving our Country: Leftist Thought in Twentieth
Century America
.

The lecture, which is sponsored by the Dr. Scholl’s Foundation
and the Office of the Dean of Humanities, is free and open to the public.
