ANDERSON QUARTET TO GIVE
CHILDREN’S CONCERT AT ZOO
Rice University-Trained Group Will Perform “A History
Lesson”
Can classical music soothe the savage beast? Houston kids will soon
find out, when they hear a world-class string quartet perform in the vicinity of
lions, tigers and bears.
The Anderson String
Quartet, the first African American ensemble to win a major competition in the
field of classical music, will give a concert on Saturday, April 8, at 2 p.m. in
the George R. Brown Education Center at the Houston Zoo. The concert is titled “Four By Four: A History Lesson.” An hour before the concert, at 1 p.m., there
will be a “musical instrument petting zoo” in which children will have an
opportunity to see, touch and play instruments featured in the
concert.
The concert is being
presented by Da Camera of Houston. The concert is free with paid admission to
the Houston Zoo.
The Anderson Quartet
has performed live on “Good Morning America,” at the Kennedy Center for
President Clinton’s inauguration, and in New York’s Alice Tully Hall.
Last fall, the
Anderson Quartet moved to Houston to study in the Quartet Training Program at
Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. The program is directed by acclaimed
cellist Paul Katz, professor of cello and chamber music.
