Neal Lane, director of the National Science Foundation and President Clinton
nominee to the White House Science Adviser post, delivers a lecture April 29
as part of the dedication ceremonies of the new E. Dell Butcher Hall, home to
Rice’s Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology. Lane’s lecture was sponsored
by the Baker Institute’s Shell Lecture Series. Lane, a former Rice provost and
professor, spoke about the triumvirate challenge of the coming century–energy,
environment and economics.
