Adams Will Discuss ‘Existence’ Sept. 11

Robert Adams, one of the leading figures in the study of the history of philosophy
and language, will deliver a lecture titled "Existence" on Friday,
Sept. 11, on the Rice campus.

Adams, the Clark Professor of Moral Philosophy and Metaphysics and the chair
of the philosophy department at Yale University, will give the 1998 Mark Williamson
Memorial Lecture at 6 p.m. in Sewall Hall 309. A reception will follow.

The lecture series honors the memory of Mark Williamson, who was a graduate
student in philosophy at Rice. The lecture series was developed to foster the
intellectual and communal atmosphere of the department for graduate students.

Adams is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Wilde Lecturer
in Natural Religion at Oxford University, a member of the American Academy of
Religion and the Society of Christian Ethics.
