More than 300 people turned out for the 17th “Evening for Rice’s Honour” gala celebrating Rice’s intercollegiate athletics successes Nov. 1 at River Oaks Country Club ballroom. The 2016 Distinguished Owl Club Award was presented to Susanne ’62 and Melbern ’61 Glasscock, University Representative Y. Ping Sun and Rice President David Leebron. Since its inception, the gala has raised nearly $6 million for the Athletics Department and scholarships. Longtime Rice supporters Linda and Dr. Walter McReynolds and Cynthia and Bucky ’71 Allshouse have chaired the gala since its inception in 1984.
